Instant Food Score (the “App”) is designed to respect your privacy. The App requires no account, collects no personal information from you, and does not sell, rent, or share any of your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes and how it is handled.
The App stores the following information only in your browser’s local storage on your device: your scan history (product barcodes, names, brands, images, and computed scores); your health profile (allergies and dietary preferences such as low-sugar, vegan, or vegetarian preferences), which may be considered sensitive health information; and your app preferences (country, language, and theme). This information never leaves your device and is not sent to us or to any third party.
When you scan a product, the barcode image is processed on your device using your device’s camera. No image or video is uploaded or stored. Only the decoded barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts API to retrieve product information.
To provide the service, the App sends the barcode number you scan or search for to the Open Food Facts API (world.openfoodfacts.org) and requests product images from Open Food Facts’ image servers. These requests do not include your name, email, location, or any other personal information and are made with a descriptive user-agent header. The App does not use analytics, advertising, or cookies.
Product information shown in the App is contributed by volunteers to the Open Food Facts community database and is used under open licenses (ODbL 1.0, DbCL 1.0, and CC BY-SA 3.0). Open Food Facts does not guarantee the accuracy of this data, and we do not verify or control it. Please refer to the Open Food Facts privacy policy for more information about how that organization processes data.
The App is not directed at children. Where laws require parental consent for digital services — including India, where the age of digital consent is 18 — the App is intended for use by adults. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us using the details below.
Because all data is stored on your device, you control it directly. You can delete your scan history at any time from the History page. To delete all data, including preferences and cached product information, use your browser’s option to clear the site’s data or storage. We do not store any of this data on our servers.
Because data is stored locally and is not transmitted, exposure is limited to your device and browser. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the App and recommend that you keep your device and browser up to date.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws, including rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because your data is stored on your device, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or clearing the App’s stored data. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version is always available on the App’s Privacy Policy page, and the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest revision.
